Post-Accelerator To-Do List for International Founders
Congratulations on graduating from an accelerator program! That’s a huge accomplishment. If you’re an international founder, and you’re interested in staying in the US after the program ends, you’re probably wondering, “What do I need to do next?” You’ve come to the right place. We’ve compiled a list of five reminders specifically for international startup founders.
Check your current visa status:
- If you are on B-1 status, you have the flexibility to remain in the US while you focus on closing your round or finding office space. Get a quick refresher on the B-1 here.
- If you are leveraging a different visa category like the Visa Waiver Program, you may have to go home temporarily while you figure out next steps, but don’t worry, we can still help!
Learn about the O-1A:
Most venture-backed founders, and especially startup accelerator graduates, qualify for the O-1A visa! The O-1A is valid for up to three years, has a direct path to a green card and demonstrates to investors that you are committed to building growing your startup in the US.
Check out our O-1A FAQs for startup founders–we dig deep into how you qualify for O-1A easily.
Close your round!
Keep up the momentum and focus on closing your round while Legalpad focuses on your visa! In addition to building your O-1A application, Legalpad and our network attorneys can also assist with work visa due diligence for fundraising.
The number-one benefit of accelerator programs are the connections you make, so make sure to stay in touch with your network! Your accelerator community could be the catalyst for a successful fundraise and recruiting opportunity. Your connections may also be useful if you’re thinking of long-term options for staying in the US.
Stay laser-focused on growth:
Remember that you’re a founder, not a global mobility expert. Your visa situation doesn’t need to distract you from the amazing momentum you’ve created during your time at an accelerator. With a little preparation from you, Legalpad takes care of the paperwork so you can take care of your team.
